F.A.Q.
Is it true that .com domains are better for search engine optimization (SEO)?
No. All domain extensions are considered equal for Google. There is no automatic preference given to a .com domain.
However you do need to be careful, not to register an alternate domain to the large company, if the .com is taken by them. This can affect your search results and result in potential trademark battle.
Is it a good idea to buy multiple extensions for the same domain?
Yes. No one will be able to use them as they will be reserved by you. So if you've got yourname.com, than it will be smart to also register yourname.net and yourname.org (and redirect them back to your main site) in order to keep your visitors coming to your site and avoid confusion.
What is a premium domain?
Premium domains (pre-registered domains or aftermarket) are short domains, with one word or even just 3-5 letters. Usually they have a .com extension but many premium domains end with .org, .net, and .biz. These domains are generally the most memorable and can include common words. These domains are typically the most preferable, because companies value short domains that match their company name or products. Some domains sold by different registries are considered premium and that’s why are more expensive. It is also quite expensive the renewal costs of them. Don’t forget to research the overall cost of the domain plus renewal to find a good domain for your budget. You can browse Namecheap's premium domains in our Marketplace.

It's a great idea to register a personal domain to ensure that you (and not someone else) control your name online.
"make offer" what does it means?
In some cases, the domain you want to use may already be registered by someone else. However the owner of this domain may be willing to sell it to you for a negotiated price. By choosing "make offer" for these domains, you'll be able to connect with the current domain owner and make an offer. This service is provided by our partners.

When you register any domain, you must provide certain personal information. In order to keep your registration data private, you can register at WhoisGuard, who acts as a "shield" for your searchable information, displaying the address, phone number, and email of the domain registrar (Namecheap, e.g.) instead of your own. Just don’t forget that WhoisGuard is an optional security add-on that must be renewed separately when you renew your domain.
